Blackhawk Farms Raceway Photography
Posted on April 17, 2009
So far, Brandy has been the one who has posted everything on the B&B Blog. I think that it is about time that I contribute as well. Hello everyone, this is Brandy’s other-half, Bill.
Last Wednesday, the 15th, I took a day and went to a racetrack that is near us. What a perfect way to combine my enjoyment of motorcycles and photography. The track’s name is Blackhawk Farms Raceway and it is located outside of South Beloit, IL.
Upon arriving just after 7:00am, it was fairly chilly; in the low 30′s on this April morning. As the day progressed, it warmed up nicely, reaching into the low 60′s with plenty of sunshine… time to kick off the summer season!

My experiences that day proved to be a little challenging for me, as sports photography is another animal than portrait photography. With racing photography, I hope to capture the speed of the participants, their body english and the emotion… without just stopping the action and losing the sense of speed. In the end, it was a great experience for me to build on my skill set. I look forward to more opportunities to do more racing photography; both on road-courses as well as motorcycles racing trails in the woods.
Truthfully, my reason for going to this Track Day was two-fold; this summer, I myself plan on attending a Track Day on my own motorcycle. So in addition to practicing my racing photography, I was there taking the experience all in; listening during the rider’s meetings, observing the speeds of the different skill groups and asking questions. Now I feel better prepared for my first ever Track Day; as I witnessed what happens, what the rules are and what I can expect.
To clarify, a Track Day is different then a Race. Track Days are where you ride the track within groups of riders of similar abilities, there are rules for passing, and with safety and fun being the top priority… outright racing is not allowed. Compared to racing, Track Days are much cheaper, safer and a great means for developing your own riding skills in a controlled environment.
So I present a few examples of the pictures I took on that day, and close with the excitement of more opportunities to capture even more vivid racing shots.

Mike & Kristen's Wedding 4-4-09
Posted on April 16, 2009
I had the pleasure of second shooting at a wedding this past weekend with my photographer friend Erin Moore of Blue Mounds, WI. The wedding was in New Glarus, WI at the beautiful Swiss United Church of Christ and the reception was held at the Edelweiss Country Club in New Glarus, WI as well. The bride and groom were a blast to hang out with and I was honored to be part of their day. The weather was extremely nice for early April and we were able to get out on the golf course and have some fun riding around in the carts!!
Congratulations Mike & Kristen!!

Heather and Daniel cont…
Posted on April 8, 2009
So I’m finally getting to Heather and Daniel’s engagement images… I’m using new software and a hopefully more efficient workflow to speed things up a bit. Yipee, it seems to working to my favor.
This couple is getting married at the end of August with an outdoor ceremony and reception… I’m very excited!! Hope you all like the pics! By the way… that is snow flying around in the air, not just weird random specks, these two were such good sports.
